Smith Double Feature

The Day The World Stood Still

Starring: Keanu Reeves, Jaden Smith, Jennifer Connely & Kathy Bates
Director: Scott Derrickson
Rating: **

The Day The Earth Stood Still is a remake of the 1951 film entitled the same. This is a movie about an alien being ( Keanu Reeves) coming to destroy earth from human beings environmental damage. However, a scientist ( Jennifer Connelly/Jaden Smith) and her step son try to prove to the alien that human's can and will change. Jaden's Smith's performance was very well received and look forward to seeing him in more films. The movie was thrilling and interesting until the last ten minutes which made it a flop. It reminded me a lot of the War between Worlds with Tom Cruise. Both films have awesome intros, strong climaxes and bad endings. However, graphics and imagery are excellent! Sad to say, I cant really give any further details of this movie because it would give it away. Recommendation: watch with caution.

Seven Pounds

Starring: Will Smith, Rosario Dawson, Wood Harelson and Michael Ealy
Director: Tood Black
Rating: ***

Seven Pounds is a story of a man ( Will Smith) who poses as character Ben Thomas, proceeds to give special gifts to seven people( Rosario Dawson, Woody Harrelson etc.),after his traumatic loss of his wife in a car accident. This film is an emotional roller coaster! You will need a box of tissue and an aspirin for this one. The element of mystery is there in the film, but the ending is very emotional. I do like the over all theme of this film, which is to give and live abundantly. The love story between Emily and Ben ( Dawson & Smith) is epic and beautiful. It represents all the things love should be sacrifice, patience, joy and promise. I do believe Will Smith will receive an Oscar for his performance. I personally, just wasn't a fan of this type of movie. Recommendation: Grab a Hanky.....
